I apologize for the late post today.  It has been the definition of…one of those days.  But better late than never…right?

This post is loooooong overdue.  Last summer I attended Justin & Mary’s Walk Through a Wedding workshop and was blown away.  I learned more than I could have ever imagined and can not thank them enough for everything they taught me.  It was such an amazing experience and one I will always hold close.  During the workshop Mary made it very clear that this was not a portfolio building workshop…that it was a place to learn.  The photos of all the amazing details were just a major perk.  I took her advice and focused on learning…not shooting.  But I snapped a few just to remember the day that I will never forget.

The theme was “Chicago”…and they did not disappoint.

You might recognize the amazing Christy Tyler.  This is the first time I met her…and now I am so happy to say we are great friends.  Actually…she’s coming over tonight for some SHARE group goodness!!!

Ravyn at Three Fifteen Design (who designed all my new branding) designed all the paper.   It was awesome!

And the bridal party.  Emilia, Ravyn, Darcy, Jordan….and of course Julia!

The end!  I can’t wait to attend another WTAW in the future!  Justin and Mary…from the bottom of my heart…thank you for everything you’ve taught me.  You guys are simply amazing.

We are closing in on Christmas…fast.  I was majorly freaking out but I did a little Christmas shopping and now I feel much better.  Of course while I was shopping for all my favorite people I couldn’t help but window shop for myself.  Don’t worry…I make it a rule not to buy things for myself over the holidays.  And most of the time I stick to it.  🙂  So I had this idea to make my own little window of sorts.  My holiday fashion wish-list.  And you never know…one of these items could be the perfect gift for your special someone!

It’s the time of year again.  Holiday party time!  I know personally I have 5 holiday parties coming up and that doesn’t count all the get-togethers with friends.  When I think of holiday parties I think of egg nog and gingerbread.  Red and green with a touch of sparkle.  Enjoying the warmth of a fire while sipping on festive cocktails.  Champagne toasts and constant laughter.  It really is the best time of year.  As the invites come in the dreaded…what to wear…instantly enters my mind.  I am totally that person who just stands in my closet and stares blankly hoping something literally jumps out at me.  It never does.  So today on Fashion Friday I thought I would try and get ahead of the game and put together some festive holiday looks.  A little sparkle…a little sass…you know.  The usual.  Now if I could just put this blog post in my closet and force it to jump out at me.

The first time I heard about WPPI I knew I wanted to go.  Bad.  I heard stories and saw pictures and wished more than anything I could stroll the halls of the MGM. I envisioned it as the Emerald City for photographers.  Once I decided I had to go…all I felt was fear.  I didn’t know ANYONE and I was positive I was going to be that lost puppy that would wander around and try and strike up awkward conversations with other random lost puppies.  Everyone talked about the parties and the get-togethers…but how lame would I be showing up ALONE!?!?!  Let’s just say the thought of this gave me a lot of anxiety.  As ashamed as I am to say it…those thoughts kept me from WPPI last year.  The cold, hard truth is…I was too scared to go alone.

Last night, David Jay said something that really resonated with me.  If you have one friend…just one person…everything that seems so big and scary all the sudden seems exciting and attainable.  If you walk into a room full of people you’ve never met before…alone…it’s terrifying.  But if you walk in that same room with just one person…one person you can call a friend…that room isn’t so scary anymore.

I am extremely lucky to have made AMAZING friends in the industry over the last year.  And because of that I am beyond excited for WPPI (aka Showit United) this year and am counting down the days until my plane takes off.  But that being said..I know there are people out there who are just like I was last year.  People who want to stroll the hallways of the photog Emerald City but are too scared.  Too scared of doing it alone.  So I am challenging myself…and every other photographer who has ever been scared…to find a person.  Find someone who needs a friend.  Send an email…grab a cup of coffee…do whatever it takes to be that person for someone else.  All it takes is one person…so why can’t that be you?

MGM Grand, Showit United, WPPI

Who’s already going to WPPI and Showit United????  I foresee several Vegas Fashion Fridays in the future.  🙂

Love this. Sounds like it’ll be an amazing experience.

Reminds me of a similar experience. I went alone to the HOW Design Conference (in Chicago) this past year… terrified to go, but so excited for it! I was casually looking at the fb How page a day or so before the event… This one girl had created a “Newbie happy hour” because she didn’t know anyone else either. GENIUS. I decided last minute to go and have a few drinks with the other lonely souls; at the very least I’d have a slight buzz. But WOW… I am sooooo glad I did. The 40 of us tweeted, partied and experienced that conference like nothing I had ever done before. Such an amazing group of people. I now have 40 graphic designer friends that I regularly talk, vent and brainstorm with… AMAZING. Best decision I have ever made. (We have a fb group… and we even designed a logo for our group. Hahahaha.)

Brought back memories and I just had to share. Sounds like a super fabulous conference. Have an amazing time… you should suggest a happy hour to meet other newbies and go from there! Just an idea! 🙂ReplyCancel

You basically told my story of WPPI fear here, haha. But, now, I just can’t wait!!! I think I should start packing now! 🙂ReplyCancel

If there’s one thing in fashion I accepted a long time ago it’s this.  I’m not trendy.  As much as I try to be…I just can’t pull off trendy.  Deep down I wish I could…but it’s just a fact of life.  Ugg boots, anything that shows my midriff, pointy toed shoes, open-toed boots….all things that when worn by me…are laughable.   I literally just purchased my first pair of skinny jeans this year.  It was a big moment…let me tell you.  As non-trendy as I may be…there is one little sucker that has crept up on me and I have decided I must have it.  Yep…you guessed it.  The fur vest.  I’m not really a fur person…but I feel like a fur vest could really add a little oomph to my daily routine.  We’ll see how it goes…

See how versatile it is?!?  I think it’s time for a fur vest to find a nice little home in my closet.  Hey…if I’m going to be trendy…I have to start somewhere.

Happy Fashion Friday!!
