I was meeting Art and Urmi for the first time that day.  My good friend Emilia had asked me to second shoot with her and of course I said yes.  As I introduced myself it only took a few moments to see what a genuine, caring and compassionate person Urmi is.  Her smile was warm and although the bustle of the wedding day was going on around her…she was calm.  The second she heard Art had arrived her face lit up.  She was about to marry the man of her dreams…and her excitement was contagious.

Art was waiting patiently downstairs to see his beautiful bride for the first time.  As their eyes met a smile came across his face that was undeniable.  He was giddy.  He never took his eyes off her…and you could see the love written all over his face. I had just met Art and Urmi that day…but in the time I spent with them one thing was for sure…they were meant to be.  Their night was filled with friends, laughter, love…and lots of dancing.  And I am so grateful to have been a small part of it.

This June…I’m going to be an aunt for the first time.  To say I’m excited about this is a major understatement.  As soon as I found out I started planning out all the ways I was going to be the world’s greatest aunt.  You know…things like late night ice cream sundaes and slumber parties at Aunt Lauren’s.  High School Musical marathons and presents…lots and lots of presents.  Who says you can’t buy love. 😉

Yesterday I found out that not only am I going to be an aunt…but I’m going to be an aunt to a perfect little niece.  Yes that’s right…a NIECE.  The second I heard this news all I could think about was just how fashionable this little diva is going to be.  I forsee skinny jeans and baby Mary Janes.  J.Crew has a baby line…enough said.  I’m considering starting a baby bracelet line.  I think it could really catch on.  I can’t wait to buy her entirely too many clothes and spoil her rotten.  Come on June!

In the meantime…I kind of picture her looking something like this…

niece

Don’t worry…she’ll be plastered all over this blog.  In all her stylish gear.  Happy Fashion Friday!

Yes, you are going to be the cool Aunt for sure! We have video of one of my ‘cool aunts’ giving me my first gold bracelet at my 1st birthday party, haha. You could make a killing with your baby bracelet line!ReplyCancel

In order to keep it honest around here…I’m going to write a post that is rather embarrassing.  Most of you will probably laugh at me and think I’m cray-cray…but for some of you…this just might make your days a little brighter.

You know when you wake up in the morning you have a certain routine.  Get out out of bed…brush your teeth…eat breakfast…and so on.  If you’re anything like me…you wake up…and check your phone.  Look through emails…text messages…Facebook…people.com.  You know…the important stuff.  I get up pretty early so usually the only emails I have are from J.Crew letting me know I’m missing some monstrous sale…which makes me feel like I need to buy something immediately.  I’m such a sucker.  Or from Gary letting me know about some odd news story he found really exciting.  It’s usually something along the lines of Santa’s mug shot or some criminal robbing himself.  He goes to work really early.

But every morning…no matter what…there is always one email I can count on.  And here comes the part about me being cray-cray.  Every morning…I get an email from the Universe.  Yep…you heard me right…the Universe.  Now before you think I’ve totally lost it…let me explain.  It’s sort of like a little pick me up in email form.  You sign up for it and it sends you a little bit of inspiration for your day.  Most of time they are absolutely hilarious…and surprisingly relevant to the day ahead.  I always read them to Gary to let him know what the universe has in store for us…he acts like he thinks I’m crazy but I know deep down he loves it.  Or at least that’s what I tell myself.  So today I am going to put a little Universe wisdom on you.  And even though you may act like you think I’m crazy…I know deep down  you love it.  🙂

You don’t even have to know what you want, Lauren. I’ll take care of that.
Just enjoy that you received another day, and the 10,000 miracles within it.

It’s on me,
The Universe

What you can do with your life, Lauren, has little to do with what’s going on in the world.
And everything to do with what you see as possible.

Grrr-r-r,
The Universe

Whatever your problem or challenge may be, Lauren, laugh at it. Laugh long and hard.
Because you are forever and it is temporary.

Love you,
The Universe

Give thanks, Lauren, whenever you want more.

Of anything,
The Universe

There’s not one person on Earth who’s there for the same reason as you…
Finding and celebrating Lauren Wakefield.

Whoop,
The Universe

If you only knew, Lauren, how normal you were when you thought you were weird.
How strong you were when you thought you were weak.
And how ready you were when you thought you weren’t.

You’d think again, oh Great One Revered by All in the Unseen –
The Universe

The Universe, TUT

So…are we still friends?  Just in case you’d like to receive some morning goodness from the Universe…you can sign up here.  I promise the giggles are worth it.

This post seems slightly contradictory since I just talked yesterday about how much I love the snow and my extreme excitement over sporting my new Eskimo boots.  But today I am going in a completely different direction.  Next week, Gary and I are packing up and embarking on what is sure to be a crazy adventure.  I will tell you all about it next week but for now just know it is full of crystal clear water, 80 degrees, and lots of wind in my hair.  I definitely will not be needing my snuggly boots.

Today’s Fashion Friday is going to act as my packing list.  A way to get organized and get ready for what’s ahead.  Here are my picks for the adventure that lies ahead…

As a wedding photographer…what to wear is always a big question.  When shooting a wedding you have to think about functionality, comfort, sweat resistance, and more than anything…professionalism.  When you have a client meeting you have to represent yourself in a professional way while still staying true to who you are as a person and a brand.  It can be very exhausting trying to find the perfect outfit for all the different situations you might find yourself in.  The way we present ourselves is so incredibly important and sometimes it can be a tad bit overwhelming.  So today on Fashion Friday I’m breaking down a day in the life of a wedding photographer.  These are my picks for the most common situations I find myself in.

Client meetings.  Your first in-person impression…make it count.

What to wear, client meetings, fashion friday

Engagement sessions.  This obviously depends a lot on the season…but it’s a chance to be more casual but still cute and put together.

Engagement Session, what to wear, fashion friday, photographers fashion

The big day.  What to wear on the wedding day is usually the biggest headache.  You want to be comfortable but still stylish and sophisticated.  You will most likely be sweating and standing in all sorts of odd positions.  I always go for a stretchy dress and something with pockets.  Pockets are my best friend.

Wedding attire, what to wear, fashion friday, photographers fashion

Working from home.  Can I get a fist bump on how awesome working from home is!!!  (I’m not working from home full time but the few weeks I have have been glorious!)  I think this is what photographers like to call business casual.  Yoga pants…slippers…and a hot cup of coffee.  Absolute perfection.

Where to buy

Home fashion, work from home, photographers fashion, fashion friday

And because this photographer will one day be rocking this next outfit…I had to include it.  A girl can dream.  🙂

Where to buy

Bridal fashion, wedding day fashion, fashion friday

Happy Fashion Friday!!!!  Who wants to go shopping now??
